Sr Manufacturing Engineer Tempe Job


Experienced Microelectronics Manufacturing Process Engineer supporting equipment and process development efforts for hybrid MCM (Multi-Chip Module) implantable medical devices used in pacing and defibrillator applications

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to drive continuous improvement and implementation of advancements in chip and wire, SMT, BGA, CSP and flip chip technologies within the MMC hybrid manufacturing organization.

This position will own process, material, and equipment development including sustaining responsibilities in the production of both rigid and flexible circuits to meet quality, reliability, cost, yield, productivity and manufacturability requirements. Process familiarity with direct chip attach, wire bond, solder print, pick and place, reflow, clean and visual metrologies are required.

Other responsibilities will include:

- Support efforts to define process/equipment requirements, develop specifications, and lead validation and production release of equipment.
-Point of contact for interfacing with manufacturing equipment vendors.
-Implement process solutions that drive process optimization and yield improvements within a Lean Sigma environment.
-Perform stability and capability assessments to reduce process and equipment variation using SPC (Statistical Process Control) techniques within a production environment.
-Apply Six Sigma problem solving skills and guide customers and partners in application of problem solving techniques to resolve complex issues.
-The candidate is expected to define and drive a preventive production environment and culture that improves quality, yield, manufacturability and productivity. The position will involve working closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and production staff to advance state-of-the-art, affordable and high quality process solutions.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Materials Engineering
5+ years experience in the electronic packaging/assembly business
-Must have a Fundamental understanding of the following packaging core competencies: Flip Chip, Underfill, Flux Cleaning, Stencil Printing, Surface Mount Assembly and Reflow Soldering.
-Must have demonstrated hands-on experience in process introduction and process/equipment qualification with in-depth understanding of process equipment.
- Frequent interaction with Production Associates and presence on the manufacturing floor
- A strong sense of ownership with preference for hands-on involvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
- A self-starter with excellent multitasking abilities
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work in clean room environment and use a Microscope.
- Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Materials Engineering..
3+ years experience in the electronic packaging/assembly business
-Strong equipment skills and capable of driving improvements in equipment needed to deliver leading edge process capability
-Flexibility in changing priorities and responsibilities to support quality and business needs.
-Demonstrate delivery of results and technical innovation for complex, time critical technical projects.
-Strong process development skills in leading and driving process development activities and efforts
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE) principles
- Ability to lead, influence and work independently without much supervision.
